I
Wieneraktionisterne tog skrappe midler i brug.
”aktionisterne”.
I
sit selvportræt fra 1964 forener Günter Brus i sit bemalede ansigt
både malerkunsten, fotografiet og den levende aktionsform. (Link:

) Hans
alligevel i dag mere aktuelle end nogen sinde.
I
Refleksioner over et beskadiget liv. Som det f.eks. kan ses i
videoen ”Meat Factory”. (Link:

The
Wiener Aktionists and Günter Brus
In several of my videos, I am inspired by the Austrian "Wiener Aktionismus". In the 1960s, artists like Hermann Nitsch, Rudolf Schwarz Kogler, Otto Muehl and not least Günter Brus, the so-called “Wiener Aktionists”, worked with their own bodies as a material in various socially critical actions directed against the bourgeois alienation and advertising world, opposition to the authentic body and natural human functions. The Wiener Aktionists used extreme measures. They mutilated their bodies and set sometimes health at stake in their attempts to exhibit the body fragmentation as evidence of society's division and the moral and political coercion. The complex issues in the subconscious was something that preoccupied "The Aktionists". They performed their art practice of threads back to Freud and psychoanalysis exploration of the human psyche and sexuality as the driving force and motivation. While inspiration from the old Austrian Baroque pompous and grotesquely distorted bodies and the circle of death. It is a departure from the established aesthetics. With the beautiful and wonderful pointing towards individuality and authenticity, being and action. Art and life merge. Flesh and blood becomes a tool in an art that recalls the transience of life and the body's ability to transcend boundaries. It is an art practice in the tension between creation and destruction that operate with the human and physical basic needs: pairing, meals, excretion.
Günter Brus, which in 1964 was co-founder of “The Wiener Aktionists”, tried in his aggressive and transnational actions to break down the taboos and conventions, that still prevailed in Austrian society in the 60s, by stunning the crowd. After an "Art and Revolution" event in 1967, where he drank his own urine, vomit and masturbating on stage while he sang the Austrian national anthem, he was sentenced to 6 months in prison, but fled to Berlin and did not return to Austria in 1976. In his self-portrait from 1964 unites Günter Brus in his painted face both the art of painting, photography and the live action form. (Link: http://uk.phaidon.com/agenda/photography/articles/2014/october/30/photos-that-changed-the-world-6-self-portrait/ ) His body appears thus as a living work of art the paint and the human body become one. It is a painting and a performance provided by the photograph taken by the Austrian press photographer Louis Hoffenreich. Although The Wiener Aktionists art and rebellion should be viewed in context with the society and the times they lived in, they are still today more relevant than ever.
In my videos, where I try to combine static and moving in a kind of living art show I also body and its destruction as an image of modern society fractionation and polarization. Man in "Hamster wheel" or as a small piece and human material in society grinders machine. Reflections on a damaged life. As such. can be seen in the video "Meat Factory".
